Chancellor Block commended students of the “Philanthropy as Civic Engagement” course at their year-end celebration and grant awarding ceremony.

The course gives students hands-on experiences with philanthropy and the local nonprofit sector, and reflects UCLA’s strong commitment to civic engagement and service.

“A core Bruin value is giving back to the community, both through philanthropy and public service. This course exemplifies what it means to give back,” said Chancellor Block. “This unique class puts you in roles of donors, but also of fundraisers and recipients.”

This year’s students awarded grants to nonprofit organizations making an impact both in Los Angeles and around the world. Funding for the course is provided by faculty, donors and the Once Upon a Time Foundation, through the Philanthropy Lab.
