Chancellor Julio Frenk shared this message with the Bruin community.

Dear Bruin Community:
In less than two years, the Olympic and Paralympic Games will return to Los Angeles for the first time since 1984 — and UCLA will once again have the extraordinary honor of welcoming the world to our campus as the home of the Olympic and Paralympic Village.
Today, we are launching 2028.ucla.edu, UCLA’s central digital hub for our journey to the Summer Games. The site will celebrate our history as the home of Olympians and Paralympians and share inspiring stories of Bruin athletes. It will also provide updates on anticipated campus impacts.
The ideals of the Olympic and Paralympic movement align with our own: a commitment to excellence, respect, fair play, inclusion and teamwork. The Games represent much more than athletic competition. Every two years, they underscore human achievement through perseverance and dedication to excellence. They bring together people from different nations, cultures and experiences. And they demonstrate the power of a shared purpose to connect us across geographies.
We strive for excellence in all that we do. We know that our greatest achievements are made possible through collaboration. And we seek to be an inclusive and respectful community in which everyone has a chance to contribute, flourish and reach their full potential.
I recently wrote about the historic role of U.S. universities in turning competitors into Olympic champions, and I invite you to read my reflections on why this model matters.
Bruins can also learn more about the lead-up to the Olympics by joining our first UCLA 2028 community information session on Thursday, October 29, from 11 a.m. to noon PDT via Zoom. RSVP for the community info session. In this quarterly meeting series, UCLA leaders and planners will answer questions and provide up-to-the-minute guidance on what to expect in the months ahead.
The Olympic and Paralympic Games and UCLA share the same promise: When people from every corner of the world come together for a common purpose, we can accomplish what none of us could achieve alone. I look forward to going on this journey with you.
We are One UCLA.
Sincerely,
Julio Frenk
Chancellor
