UCLA Administration Listening Exercise

Attendees at the chancellor’s Listening Exercise session for Administration on March 17, 2025 discussed a range of issues currently facing higher education, including state budget constraints, potential funding cuts from federal sources, and the need to address aging infrastructure and deferred maintenance.

The speakers also acknowledged the importance of fostering a supportive and inclusive campus culture that values and recognizes the contributions of all members of the university community, including staff. They discussed strategies for improving campus safety and ways that UCLA Administration can support the university’s strategic plan and mission effectively.

A speaker emphasized the importance of effectively communicating the university’s contributions to society, highlighting its role in research, innovation, and technological advancements that benefit everyone. Another speaker emphasized  the need to embrace emerging technologies like artificial intelligence to enhance teaching, learning, and administrative efficiency.

One discussion point centered around the opportunities and challenges facing UCLA in the lead-up to the 2028 Summer Olympics. Finally, a speaker reflected on their experiences since joining UCLA, emphasizing the importance of seeing beyond challenges and recognizing the university’s unique strengths and potential.
