UCLA Undergraduate Students Association Council

Attendees at the chancellor’s Listening Exercise with the Undergraduate Students Association Council (USAC) on April 16, 2025 asked a variety of questions regarding the university’s response to current events and the impact on students.

They sought reassurance from the chancellor about the university’s plans to support undocumented and international students in light of federal policy changes and expressed worries about the impact of funding cuts on academic programs and the availability of research, residential, and peer support positions. The attendees also discussed the challenges posed by over-enrollment and its effect on class registration and housing.

Concerns were raised about the impact of a hiring freeze on student employment opportunities. Students also sought to understand the university’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in the context of national conversations surrounding these issues.

Finally, students asked about the university’s stance on protecting freedom of expression in the face of potential threats to federal funding.
