Appointment of Mark C. Krause as Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief Compliance and Audit Officer
Chancellor Block sent the following message to UCLA leadership.
Dear Colleagues:
|
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mark C. Krause as associate vice chancellor and chief compliance and audit officer. He will take up the position on June 21. In this critical role, Krause will serve as UCLA’s principal advisor to campus leadership on ethics, compliance and audit matters and will be responsible for developing and overseeing our compliance and audit program. Krause will be responsible for ensuring that UCLA management is accountable for maintaining compliance with applicable laws, regulations and policies. An alumnus of UCLA School of Law, Krause comes from Warner Bros. Entertainment, where he was vice president and chief compliance officer. At Warner Bros., Krause developed policies, procedures and practices to ensure the company’s global compliance with relevant laws, including those pertaining to anticorruption, economic sanctions and online marketing. From 2002 to 2011, Krause served as an assistant U.S. attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California. During his time as a federal prosecutor, Krause was deputy chief of cyber and intellectual property in the crimes section, where he investigated and prosecuted various cyber and intellectual property crimes, including copyright infringement, trademark infringement, theft of trade secrets, computer intrusions and other cyber-related offenses. Krause also investigated and prosecuted large-scale financial crimes. Krausereceived the Attorney General’s Award for Exemplary Performance and the Director’s Award for Superior Performance in recognition of his service. From 2010 to 2013, Krause taught a seminar on cybercrime as an adjunct professor at the USC Gould School of Law. Krause earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Amherst College and law degree from UCLA, where he was chief articles editor of the UCLA Law Review. Krause also served as a law clerk to the Hon. David R. Thompson and the Hon. William D. Keller. As associate vice chancellor and chief compliance and audit officer at UCLA, Krause will report jointly to me and to the senior vice president of ethics, compliance and audit services at the UC Office of the President. His position has the independent authority and autonomy necessary to objectively review and evaluate sensitive compliance issues on our campus. I want to thank the search/advisory committee members for their efforts in assembling an exceptional pool of candidates and for their role in recruiting Mark. The committee was chaired by Vice Chancellor for Legal Affairs Louise Nelson. Other members were: Jim Davis, vice provost, information technology; Matt Elliott, senior associate athletic director, internal operations; Gregg Goldman, vice chancellor and chief financial officer; and Michael Pfeffer, associate clinical professor and assistant vice chancellor and chief information officer, health sciences. I am confident that with his impressive career in both the public and private sectors — and with his deep experience in some of the most critical areas facing higher education today including cyber security and the protection of intellectual property — Mark will be a tremendous addition to our team. Please join me in congratulating him and welcoming him back to UCLA in this new role. Sincerely, |
Gene D. Block
