Reaffirming our Commitment to Diversity
Chancellor Block reaffirms his commitment to diversity at UCLA in light of several court challenges to existing law.
Diversity is a vital part of campus life at UCLA, as it prepares students to work in a global economy and live in a multicultural world. While I personally believe Proposition 209 was bad policy, it is nonetheless the law of California and our university fully complies. Its passage did not end our efforts to maintain diversity at UCLA. We continue to work within the constraints of the law to strengthen our commitment to diversity, a commitment that extends to hiring and promotion of faculty and staff. We are aware of several existing court challenges to the law and we continue to monitor them, always hopeful for fewer restrictions on our ability to help UCLA reflect the world beyond our campus borders.
