Launching our Centennial Celebration Saturday
Chancellor Block sent the following message to the UCLA campus community.
A new era is about to begin for UCLA. On Saturday, we will launch a yearlong celebration of our Centennial and all of the ways this inspiring, innovative and inclusive campus has made a meaningful impact on the world in our first 100 years. Marking this milestone is also an opportunity to celebrate all of you — our students, faculty, staff, alumni and partners — and all those who came before you to set the stage for this wonderful occasion.
We begin this Saturday with Alumni Day and a series of TEDxUCLA talks here on campus. That evening, an exciting light-and-sound projection onto Royce Hall will revisit our past and look ahead to our future.
The following Monday, we will join alumni in Sacramento and, on Wednesday, we will be in Downtown L.A.’s Grand Park for a community celebration with KCRW-FM, the UCLA Marching Band and special guests as City Hall is lit up in blue and gold. And that’s only the beginning. For more details on all that we have planned, please visit our Centennial Celebration website.
This is a fantastic time to celebrate all that UCLA has achieved in our first century — still a relatively short time in the life of a major university. It is also a time to think collectively about how we will move into our second century — a new era that will allow us to build upon our outstanding academic programs and our groundbreaking research, while also reaching even more people who can benefit from UCLA’s great resources. I hope you will join the celebrations and be part of the conversation about our future.
