Statement on Haiti Earthquake

Global Outreach

Chancellor Block shares resources to help those affected by the earthquake in Haiti.

I was deeply shocked and saddened by the news of the tragic, 7.0-magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti yesterday. This major catastrophe has caused massive destruction and almost demolished the capital city. The death toll may reach 100,000. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected, certainly the people of Haiti and those here in the U.S. who have friends and family there.

The U.S. State Department has set up a toll-free telephone number (1-888-407-4747) for Americans seeking information about individuals in Haiti.

President Obama has promised an all-out rescue and humanitarian effort. I encourage you to lend any assistance you can. I know that UCLA is a very giving community, and it is at times like this when people need our help the most.

Below is a list of some charities that are accepting donations for the earthquake relief.
